Six hours later, with their overnight bags stashed in one of the larger clubhouse bedrooms, Grace and Kadence milled around the bar, helping women and children prepare the feast.

Grace looked up from mixing the bread dough, her gaze wandering to the large conference room at the end of the bar. She couldn’t see inside as all the windows had blinds drawn, but about twenty patched Knights of Hell had been holed up in there for over two hours.

Reports from the hospital said Rafe was out of surgery and doing well. He’d make a full recovery. When she’d asked for permission to visit him, Zeke denied her request. Her restricted freedom grated on her. She understood why it was necessary, but it raised her hackles. Being around this many people made her antsy. She already had a heavy dose of cabin fever.

Kadence on the other hand, loved people. She was currently helping a few of the older women make the biggest portion of potato salad she’d ever seen.

The door to the conference room opened. Men piled out, grim expressions etched on their faces. Zeke was the last one to exit. He finished his conversation with a portly older guy sporting a long grey beard by clapping him on the back. Finally alone, he leaned back against the door frame for a few seconds, raked a hand through his blond hair, and closed his eyes. His aura screamed tension. She’d never really thought about it before, but being the leader of a MC must be tiring.

So many people to take care of. So many problems.

She wanted to go over and hug him. That wouldn’t be appropriate. One, she didn’t want him to appear weak in front of his crew. That could get him killed. Even she knew that. Two, they weren’t dating. It wasn’t her place to comfort him. They were just screwing around. Nothing more.

Nothing serious enough that involved soothing his pain.

As though feeling her gaze on him, his eyes snapped open. When they connected, other people in the room faded away. Her heart rate sped as he scorched her with a look of pure, molten desire. Zeke pushed off from the door, and stalked through the crowd to the table where she was preparing the dough. There were a number of things she could have done—wiped her hands to get rid of the excessive flour, turned on her heel and ran for cover, but she stood frozen to the spot. Desire made blood pulse heavy and languid through her veins.

He stopped directly in front of her. Her chest heaved as her breathing became labored and her breasts swelled. He hadn’t even touched her and she was primed, ready for action. She’d gone from zero to a hundred miles per hour in less than a few seconds.

Zeke cupped her cheek and crashed his lips on hers. The kiss was full of frustration and desire. It was hard and fast. He didn’t give her time to get with the program.
